Aetna CVS Health Is Leaving the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace

Did you get Aetna’s message to current subscribers? You’re not alone in worrying about what happens with your upcoming healthcare insurance enrollment. Carolina Insurance Professionals is here to ease your mind.

There has been a significant Affordable Care Act (ACA) update concerning Aetna CVS Health for the 2026 Open Enrollment season. Effective December 31, 2025, Aetna CVS Health will exit the Individual and Family Plan health coverage business, also known as the ACA Marketplace, due to rising health care costs and the insurance company’s goal of providing the best possible value.

This leaves North Carolina residents in need of new health insurance providers in 2026. Don’t worry. You still have health insurance. The advanced notice from Aetna CVS Health gives you plenty of time to research health insurance companies and health plans to consider the family or individual health care coverage and prescription drug plans you want from new health care insurance plans. Nothing is going to change until the end of the year.

Aetna will continue to support and assist its members throughout 2025, ensuring you receive complete service and benefit from your current health insurance plan. There is no immediate action required, and no changes will occur within your existing health insurance plan through the end of 2025.

By July 1, 2025, members will receive an official letter from Aetna CVS Health providing further details about this change to their 2026 health care coverage.
