Cigna Individual and Family Health Insurance Plans Ending for 2027 in North Carolina
Cigna Healthcare has announced that it will no longer offer Individual and Family medical plans for the 2027 plan year. This change affects North Carolina residents currently enrolled in Cigna Individual and Family health insurance who will need coverage for 2027.
Cigna Individual and Family medical plans remain available for coverage through the remainder of 2026. Current Cigna members should continue using their existing coverage according to the terms of their 2026 plan while preparing to select new coverage for 2027.
What Does This Mean for Cigna Health Insurance Members in North Carolina?
North Carolina residents who currently have a Cigna Individual or Family medical plan will need different health insurance coverage for 2027.
The 2027 Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Period begins November 1, 2026. Consumers who enroll in a new plan by December 15, 2026 can have coverage begin January 1, 2027. Open Enrollment continues through January 15, 2027.
Cigna’s announcement applies specifically to its Individual and Family medical plans. Cigna has stated that its dental plans will continue to be available for 2027 and beyond.
What Should Current Cigna Members Do?
If you currently have an Individual or Family medical plan through Cigna, review your 2027 health insurance options during Open Enrollment.
When comparing replacement coverage, consider:
- Whether your doctors and specialists participate in the new plan’s network
- Whether your preferred hospitals and healthcare systems are in-network
- Whether your prescription medications are covered
- Monthly premiums, deductibles, copays and coinsurance
- The plan’s annual out-of-pocket maximum
- Whether you qualify for a premium tax credit or other Marketplace savings
- Any changes to your expected healthcare needs for 2027
Plans, provider networks and costs vary by insurer and location. Available 2027 plans should be compared based on your specific household, healthcare needs and eligibility.
Do Not Assume You Will Have the Same Coverage in 2027
When an insurance company no longer offers a Marketplace plan for the following year, the Marketplace may match some consumers with another plan. HealthCare.gov recommends reviewing the plan you are matched with and comparing it with other available options rather than relying solely on automatic re-enrollment.
If you want new coverage to begin January 1, 2027, the deadline to select a Marketplace plan is December 15, 2026.
